If you are thinking of getting into cycling, here are the top 5 accessories that you need for a fun and safe ride.
The most important ingredient. Having the right bike will ensure you get the most pleasure from your new cycling adventure! So ask yourself what you want the bike for. Is it mainly for commuting, long weekend rides in the countryside, or quick rides to the coffee shop and back? At Everyone Bikes we sell a wide range of bikes, from Trek hybrid bikes (£375 - £750), Trek racing bikes (£600 - £2300) and stylish upright bikes such as Bobbin (£300 - £395) and Pashley (£700 - £1100). We also have some very nice kids’ Frog bikes (£100 - £280).
Whatever type of ride you plan on doing, we can go through our bike range and give you options to ensure you are buying the right bike for your needs.
Having a helmet could make the difference between surviving a fall unscathed and something more dangerous. The helmet should fit snuggly on your head and the straps should be tight enough without feeling uncomfortable. These days there are a wide variety of helmets in all shapes and sizes to choose from, and you can even get something to match your bike! We stock Bontrager (£24.99 - £69.99) and Bern (£40 - £65) helmets in a variety of colours and sizes for adults and children.
As autumn sets in you will probably be cycling a lot more in the dark. A good set of lights ensures that you are seen by other road users and given enough space on the road. Get bright front and rear lights for your bike so vehicles can see you from far away. At the shop, you can choose from the fun and well-designed Knog and Lezyne lights. Prices range from £23 - £142 for a pair of front and back lights.
Because we live in London, investing in a good lock is very important if you want to avoid getting your bike stolen. Locks are tested and awarded a rating (gold, silver or bronze) by Sold Secure according to their level of strength. Some companies, Abus and Knog for example, also do their own testing in addition to Sold Secure and they award a security rating from 1 (low) to 10 or 15 (high). We sell Abus U locks and holder locks and Knog U locks as well as flexible silicone locks in many colours. If you have bike insurance make sure you check which security level they require, as some only accept Sold Secure gold and silver rated locks. Lock prices range from £19.99 - £74.99.
5. WATER-PROOF JACKET
Living in London, a quality jacket is a must! Cycling exposes you to the elements - rain, sleet, thunderstorms, snow, you name it. It is important to keep dry and warm so a good water-proof jacket is essential. Whatever your style you will find a jacket that suits you. At the shop we have a great range of Vulpine, Otto Ponchos, and Endura rain jackets. Prices range from £34.99 – £210.
This is a just starting point to show the different accessories that you will need as a first time cyclist. Each cyclist’s needs are different so pop over to the shop and we will be happy to discuss your individual goals and offer advice. We have some great products in store that you can browse and try on. Hope to see you soon!
